Lorna has not been interested in omelette either, though for some reason hard boiled egg was quite a success. Hmm, not tried dried apricot yet, that sounds interesting. She had a rice cake at baby group yesterday which was a big hit, so I bought some (they have barely any salt in) as I thought they'd make a useful portable snack. She had chilli con carne last night (without the chilli for her), and lamb casserold the night before, which seemed to go down very well! I'm with you on how quickly they develop their eating skills, and I do think that it really helps with their hand-eye coordination. And it is definitely making us eat more healthily, though I've noticed our weekly shopping bill going up with all the extra fruit and veg we're now buying! I know you said that Art has porridge fingers for brekky sometimes, I've found making ordinary porridge, but extra thick is a bit easier for Lorna to eat as she doesn't have any teeth. She just picks up handfulls and shoves it in her mouth.

Ah, we have that problem too! Lorna always ends up tired while sitting in her chair waiting for us to get all the elements of dinner ready, plus our own, so we can all sit down together and not have to get up from the table again (as soon as we get up to get something from the kitchen, she drops all the food on the floor as if to say "I'm not eating by myself"!). Last night was the first time we managed dinner together, as she refused to go to bed when she normally does, so at 8:30 last night she was attempting halved grapes (too small, won't try that agin for a while), sticks of banana (she hates banana, but I keep trying it!) and halved cherry tomatoes, which made a right mess of her PJs. She couldn't have any of our dinner as it was a very hot curry!

Hi Katy,

I think there was enough in the BLW Cookbook to get started, but I downloaded a copy of the first book for Kindle and it's a really interesting read. I think if you have any doubters in your midst then I'd recommend the first book so you're armed with as much info and background as possible to shoot back at well-meaning-comment-droppers. Otherwise, as long as you're sensible about it and follow the do's and don'ts, you'll be fine with the cookbook alone.

Hmm, regarding aprons, dunno, we're going for the big long bib approach to start with (just a fabric one, apparently the big scoopy catchy plastic ones can be quite a distraction in itself at this age.

All the best on your journey too, hope you share with us via comments!

I am just looking in to BLW for our little one (6 mths 2 days) - did you find the cook book gave you enough information or would you recommend buying the original BLW book as well? Also (a trivial question but vital to save on washing) do you know where to get a good and well-fitting apron, the type that entirely covers the top half, like a coat?! I hope it goes well and will look forward to reading Art's journey. I am having to compromise as my husband thinks it is a ridiculous concept as he is adamant that as soon as our little one eats some solids at tea-times, ie by us feeding him so we know he has actually eaten, that he will magically sleep through, . Oh dear, I fear he is to be shown that getting sleep back may not be quite that simple!
